Exeter Central Library
Just off the high street and next to Rougemont Gardens this is Exeter's main library. The best place to work is upstairs on the Performing Arts mezzanine. There are individual tables and chairs set out looking out towards the windows. If you require use of a PC then there are plenty of terminals across the library and they are free for 30 minutes. Ask staff for rates after this time. Obviously this is a library so its quiet, great if you need to concentrate but remember head phones if you want to listen to audio.
If the weather is good you can pick it up the wifi in Rougemont gardens. There is no direct access to the gardens from the library but if you go around the building you will find a wifi single at the park benches along the edge of the library building. I have often picked up a panini from Gandy Street Kitchen and sat on the park benches checking the Web.
The WiFi is as you would expect from the Council reliable but I discovered some limitations to the service, while they do allow access to the Web (as long as your not trying to get to 'naughty' sites) and social media streams like Twitter and Facebook I found that my syncs to Dropbox, Evernote failed. Plus I couldn't access my email, I run my own secure mail server and I was denied access. You are able to access web mail services like gmail via your browser. So long and short its a good place to do work because its quiet and cheap (even if you pay for power at £1 a day) but understand that there are some limitations.
